Favorite Places In Charleston!

I love Charleston so, so much. I have been to New York City, St. Louis, San Fransisco, and many other cities. But to this day, Charleston remains to be my favorite city of all time. I am in love with its history and beauty. Really it's amazing. So for those of you who haven't been, here are the places you absolutely have to go.

Outskirts of Charleston:

 Boone Hall- This is a plantation that has been the backdrop for many actors and actresses. These include Patrick Swayze, Rachel McAdams, and Mr.&Mrs. Ryan Reynolds. 

The Village- This is a place I only just learned about on my last trip to Charleston. It is the small town that portrayed Seabrook in the Notebook.

 Fort Sumter- This one is in the harbor in Charleston. It is historically known for being a part of the first battle of the Civil War.

Downtown Charleston:

The Battery- The battery has always been known to me as the pirate graveyard, but it also has a killer view of the water.

John C. Calhoun House- This house was also featured in a few movies. It is quite beautiful on the outside and the in, though there is a lot of artifacts within it now.

St. Philip's Church- This is just one of the many church steeples that you will see while in Charleston, but you can tell that this one has been around the longest. (I mean that in a good way of course!)

The Three Sisters- There is a story about three houses that were built by a father for his three daughters. For the brunette, a brick house. For the blonde, a yellow house. And for the redhead, a pink house.

Rainbow Row- This is one of my favorite places in the world. It is a strip of houses that are all a different color and they are simply beautiful.

Preparing for a Formal

This past weekend was Auburn BYX's formal in Charleston, SC. I was lucky enough to be apart of this awesome event. I have been to formals and semi-formals for the last two years and I have learned a little something about being prepared for a formal. This will include something for the guys as well as the girls so that it can help everyone.

Formals are usually somewhere, farther away. In this case, we were 5-6 hours away and that means that we spent the night. This is trickier because you can't just run home if you forgot something. You really need to plan ahead and I have made a mock inventory for those of you who would like a small layout.

Boys :

-Penguin Suit

-Hair Product (Benji!)

-Socks/Shoes

-Toiletries

Girls :

-Dress

-Hair Products and accessories

-Make-up

-Jewelry

-Shoes (Though, you are probably going to take them off before you dance.)

-Toiletries

As long as you have these things, everything else is just extra. These are just the primary needs of a formal. I hope this benefits anyone who has a formal to attend. I have learned to make lists from experience because I have almost forgotten everything I needed and I hate that feeling. Prepare For a Segway Tour!

So I went to Charleston this past weekend for Auburn BYX formal. It was absolutely awesome! I had so much fun. Something that we did that I have never done before was a Segway tour. It was a new experience and it was so much fun, but there are some things I wish I had prepared for differently. So I thought I would blog about it.

How do you operate a Segway?
It really isn't as tricky as you might think. There isn't a gas trigger or anything like that, you simply just shift your weight. To go backward, you put your weight back and to go forward you put your weight forward. To turn you just move the handles to the right or the left. You can spin in a stationary circle or you can lean and turn at the same time. It is really that easy. Just be sure to keep your balance and find your center when you want to stop.

What to wear?
You really can wear whatever, though I wouldn't recommend a dress or a skirt. However, be sure to wear comfortable, supportive shoes. I wore Chacos and my arches were killing me by the end. Remember that you are standing for a solid hour or two so just keep that in mind when you choose your footwear. 

I really enjoyed touring this small village in Charleston. It was where they shot most of the Notebook. I had a really good time and I am really glad we did it though I was skeptical at first.

My Little's Basket!

So I got a little yesterday in my sorority and I LOVE her! She is perfect. We love Reese's and Harry Potter, and she is just awesome. So now that I don't have to keep this a secret anymore, I want to tell you what all I finally gave to my little.

I also got her some Nutella because she loves it and my big, her grand big, made her a scrapbook.

Let me tell you, I cannot wait to spoil my little even further. I am so excited for our future adventures and I am so glad to have met her.

What My Family Means To Me

This past weekend was my birthday so my family came down for the game on Saturday. Don't even get me started on that game. Anyway, I just really wanted to share about my family a little more.

You have read about all three of my brothers before and now I am going to tell you about the parents.

My Mom grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She has a northern, spitfire sense of humor and a huge love for sports, particularly football. She is my best friend and she is the only voice of reason I listen to because she is usually right. Except for when I am. ;)

My Dad grew up in Birmingham, AL. He went to military school as a kid and also attended Auburn just like me. He has the softest heart I have ever encountered, and I know there is nothing he wouldn't do for me and my brothers or their wives. 

You know about my three brothers. None of us has an accent that is specific to any area. You may have heard about spanglish, but that is how we are with our accent. It depends on what we are watching or who we are talking to, and what we are talking about. This is because we have parents from the north and the south. Dad says wersh instead of wash and mom says Bab instead of Bob. It really is quite interesting to hear. 

Anyone who knows me knows that my family means the world to me. For me blood is definitely thicker than water, and if you have our blood you live and die for your family. I am so incredibly thankful that God has given me 21 amazing years with my family and I don;t know what I would do without them. A verse that fits well with the love of a family is 1Corinthians 13:4-7:
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Afternoon Tea!

I have said before that I am a total Brit at heart! So I am going to tell you about afternoon tea and why I love it. And it's not just because it's British. 
I love afternoon tea because it is a good pick me up in the afternoon and you just feel fancy. I try and do it as legit as possible, but sadly I do not have a tea set. I have bits and pieces of sets and no teapot.
Now there are a few things you will need for afternoon tea:

• Hot Water
• Milk
• Sugar
• Sweet Snacks  

You can use any tea you like and snacks. I like to heat up the water in the microwave and then I can usually get two good cups of tea from the tea bag. For sweet snacks, I just use whatever is around the house like granola bars or brownies or anything.
